Work Orders
This page is OBSOLETE. New version can be found here.
Work order is like a piece of paper with a task on it.
- Only one can have the same task at time. If many people are working on the same task one of them is the owner and the rest are workers.
- As a piece of paper also the work order can be handed from one user to another.
- Everytime the status of a work order changes, it can be seen on the work order view.
- When the task is completed the work order closes. It will be archived in the system but it's not active anymore.
Creating a work order
Let's assume that your office's air conditioning is down. You have reported this to NorfelloCMMS (we'll get to this later on). John is the maintenance manager for your office and he gets notified of your report. This is what John does next:
- If NorfelloCMMS is just installed there are no types for work orders. The types are created under "Configuration" --> "Work order types" in the top menu and then "Create" on the submenu. Just give the type "Name:Repair", description is optional.
- After there is a work order type called "Repair", we select the right asset (in this case Air Conditioning) from the asset tree (don't worry if you have different assets, you can select whatever asset you like to).
- Now that we have "Selected asset:CMMS-SOMETHING" we continue by creating a work order. Select Work orders from the main menu. Press create and fill the form:

Only short description is a required field. Proceed by clicking "Create work order" button in the bottom of page. The work order has now been created.
From new work order to job done
Now that a work order is created, we can assign it to a user or just leave it open. In this case we assign it. We'll assume Jack the repair man is working and he gets notified about the new work order. Jack is on the field so he uses his PDA to connect to NorfelloCMMS. After login he sees the message "You have a new message" on the screen, and by clicking it he navigates to the new work order.

By selecting "Accept work order" in the bottom of page Jack verifies the job and starts fixing the A/C. After the job is done he selects "Close work order".
The whole process can be viewed for instance in the timeline of the asset: http://cmms.norfello.com/cmms/attachment/wiki/WorkOrders/7.png?format=raw
